Technology continues to evolve to capture the most amount of data possible. In this case, more is better—until it’s not. The immense amount of data captured by industrial and consumer products alike does not just disappear. It is recorded and stored somewhere, which adds data privacy and security as additional elements to the Big Data puzzle. R&D professionals are not unified even within their own industry sectors on what to use for data analysis and storage and how to train their personnel. Adding yet another wrinkle is the question of where to store all of this data. Most companies have turned to the cloud, but security issues and data loss have plagued that solution as well. In fact, security has been identified as the number one issue of concern by R&D professionals as companies move forward to develop new technologies and new products.
