SP8 FALCON (FAst Lifetime CONtrast) provides fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM) measurement with any confocal imaging workflow at confocal speed. Lifetime information is treated as an extra contrast channel and can be activated with one click during the imaging setup. The main applications of FLIM are studies of molecular interaction by Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET), biosensing microenvironmental changes and separation of fluorophores with overlapping spectral proprieties. Conventional Time Correlated Single Photon Counting (TCSPC) systems are slow because of long dead times and limited photon counts. SP8 FALCON, having a short full system dead time and the possibility of combining multiple detectors, can work continuously at high photon count rates and high speed, since multiple photons per pulse can be acquired. SP8 FALCON allows investigating highly dynamic biological processes in the sub-second time range using lifetime contrast.
