Using augmented reality, the Smart Surgical Glasses System gives surgeons the ability to perform risky surgeries with improved accuracy, shortened period of time and reduced radiation exposure. The device collects data from CT scans or C-arm machines and converts these 2D x-rays into a 3D model of the patient’s body. This regenerated 3D model overlaps with the actual patient, allowing the surgeon to, in a sense ‘see through’ a patient’s skin and understand skeleton, soft tissue, vessels, and nerve systems during the surgery itself. The device also collects patient data and stores it in a databank for later uses in academic research.
