The U.S. Department of Energy predicts data center energy consumption will comprise 20 percent of all energy consumption in the US by 2030. Power API enables energy management and savings for computing systems that make up a large percentage of the overall energy usage in the world. The innovation serves as a standardized interface for power measurement and control of computing systems; from personal computers to the largest supercomputers and data centers on the planets. It is predicted that Power API has the potential to reduce energy on computing systems by 5 to 15 percent. Saving even 10 percent of data center consumption means Power API can save on average 2 percent of all electrical generation capacity in the U.S. per year with no reduction in work performed. According to World Bank statistics, this is equivalent to 83.3 Billion kWh (83.3 TWh) or approximately $8.4 Billion per year at average U.S. consumer power prices. That’s the equivalent of doubling the efficiency of all solar generation panels in the U.S. as of 2017. In terms of CO2 emissions, it is equivalent to taking 20.6 million cars off of the road.
