The dropletProbe Surface Sampling System for Mass Spectrometry incorporates a chromatographic separation step prior to mass spectrometry analysis for unparalleled selectivity and sensitivity. The system employs an auto sampler in the liquid extraction surface sampling processes that introduces the novel capability to process the extract post sampling. These devices are designed to handle solutions followed by injection of a liquid sample for a follow-up analytical measurement, such as combined high performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (HPLC/MS) analysis. Adding the unique capability of incorporating a liquid-based separation after the surface sampling process, enables the analysis of complex sampling matrixes and allows the targeting of analyte components that cannot easily be distinguished on the basis of mass-to-charge ratio or by gas-phase methods such as tandem mass spectrometry alone. This technology is ideal for a variety of novel applications in pharmaceutical research, environmental protection, food safety, national security, forensic science, chemical science,  materials science, and more.
