Exhaust Plume Analyzer is a software application used to quantify the risk of experiencing severe turbulence or aircraft upset when an aircraft is flying in the vicinity of an exhaust plume. This risk is calculated by modeling the resulting plume based on inputs describing the smoke stack(s), aircraft characteristics and environmental conditions at a site of interest. Execution of the model produces risk contour plots representing the likelihood of experiencing severe turbulence or aircraft upset for each of the aircrafts specified in the model inputs. Exhaust Plume Analyzer is intended for use by airport sponsors, land use planners and permitting agencies around airports to evaluate the potential flight impacts from existing and planned developments that produce exhaust plumes. Examples of such developments include power plants, cooling towers or other facilities that create thermal exhaust plumes.
