CANVERA Polyolefin Dispersions

Organization: Dow Coating Materials
Year: 2016
Award Level: Silver

CANVERA Polyolefin Dispersions allow progressive food and beverage brand owners to offer packaging alternatives that address growing consumer interest in avoiding packaging that contain epoxy and Bisphenol-A (BPA) coating systems. Steel and aluminum containers for food and beverage today, and for most of the last 100 years, are coated on the inside. These metal beverage and food containers require an interior coating to protect the container from corrosion caused by the contents, and also to protect the contents from contact with the metal, ensuring preservation, flavor quality and consumer food safety. Today, most interior coatings utilize epoxy, which contains BPA. BPA is of concern to some consumers, listed on California Prop65 in the United States, banned from use in food containers in France, and under additional scrutiny for European REACH restrictions. The metal packaging industry demands a high-performing coating with a food safety profile desirable to consumers, which not only avoids BPA, but also other materials of concern such as epoxy, styrene and phenolic cross-linkers.

CANVERA Polyolefin Dispersions by Dow Coating Materials received the Special Recognition: Market Disruptor - Products, Silver Award.
